Webinar Executive Brief
Despite gains made over the years, adolescents and young people in Kenya still face a myriad of challenges that have far-reaching implications for their health and well-being. The Kenya Demographic Health Survey 2022 paints a concerning picture, revealing that teenage pregnancy remains a significant issue. The survey indicates that approximately 18% of young women aged 15 to 19 have already given birth or are pregnant with their first child. This alarming rate of teenage pregnancy not only disrupts educational pursuits but also exposes young mothers to higher health risks and perpetuates the cycle of poverty. Concurrently, the specter of HIV continues to cast a shadow over the youth population, with an estimated 8.2% of young people aged 15 to 24 living with the virus. These sobering statistics emphasize the importance of adequate information and healthcare services that address the unique vulnerabilities faced by young individuals.
